History of Gleneagles

Gleneagles was built in 1990 by owners and builders Nick and Chris House and their company, House Bros Pty Ltd, a building company which specialises in the construction of aged care facilities.

The original facility accommodated 53 residents using bed licenses from The Terrace Private Nursing Home, (now closed), under the Director of Nursing, Anne Henderson.

On 1 July 1994, under Director of Nursing, Dianne Paterson, the facility commenced operations as the first extra service nursing home in South Australia. The aim of this new service was to provide more services and better accommodation than was offered in standard nursing homes.

In 2002, a 40 bed addition was completed, utilising bed licenses and in some cases many residents and staff from Orana Nursing Home in Henley Beach. This facility, which was owned by the House family, was then closed and the site sold.

In building the new addition the aim was to create a facility which is reminiscent of a boutique hotel with a welcoming reception and elegant sitting areas.

The design and vision of Gleneagles Aged Care Facility was inspired by Nick House’s ageing parents and his children. In planning the building he was motivated to provide a high quality, fully accredited, spacious establishment where he would be happy for his parents to live and where his children and family would feel comfortable visiting.

A new 16 bed hostel, or low care facility, was opened in November 2004 and complements the existing services. The new addition has been designed to promote ageing in place with the ability to meet low and high care needs of residents.

Nick manages the facility together with his wife Kathryn and a support team at the administrative office, located at 33 Dequetteville Terrace, Kent Town.

The day to day management relating to resident care and staffing is the responsibility of the Director of Nursing and the support staff located at Gleneagles.
